This health kick thing seems to actually be sticking for me for some reason and I’m pretty sure it’s down to my secret weapon…my very own raw chocolate! I’m not claiming this to be the “cleanest” but my goodness, I’m … Continue reading
So here we are, it’s early summer and our old friend panic is beginning to settle in. Most of us are now the a final countdown to that looming summer holiday and the thought of stepping into a bikini sends a shiver down our spines. Yesterday morning, I went along to a body confidence masterclass with Cosmopolitan, and we had 2 exercise classes (which, as a result, I am pretty much unable to move today), a visit from Birchbox (a fantastic beauty subscription service) who were very generous with their goodies, and finally a talk and demo from healthy eating guru Madeleine Shaw.
I must say, Madeleine’s talk was the highlight of the event from me. I personally find your usual #eatclean healthy gym bunny type incredibly intimidating, but Madeleine was different. She delivered an amazingly interesting well informed talk, she was engaging and gave eating clean a human and friendly face. For the first time I felt that perhaps this is something I can try out after all (as opposed to the usual overwhelming urge to run off and cry into a cheese toastie), the food we tried was delicious and easy to make. So here is my own version of a recipe shown to us by Madeleine yesterday:
For the Mousse:
1 Small avocado
1 Tbsp raw Cacao powder
1 Tbsp Raw Honey
1/2 Tbsp Skimmed Milk
1/2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
And a punnet of strawberries
It really is as simple as whizzing it all in a blender until smooth and creamy then dipping your strawberries in. And the proof is really in the pudding (‘scuse the pun) when the men hadn’t the foggiest they were actually munching on avocado!
Here’s to a healthy summer!
I’m back and officially a graduate! I have walked away from Newcastle with some of my favourite memories and amazing friends, I must say I almost did a classic ‘panic’ post grad course just to go back for one more … Continue reading

The weekend is almost here and for me, that means one thing: a license to faff about all morning making breakfast! These pancakes I must say have the wow factor so are perfect for a birthday breakfast for a housemate … Continue reading
I have had to make a recipe for salted caramel sauce because at the rate things are going, my entire student loan would be blown on jars of this stuff. It’s addictive and if you haven’t tried any yet then … Continue reading
This can be enjoyed as a lengthy breakfast or even as a dessert. The smell of it cooking is intoxicating, the sugary syrupy smells of buttery cinnamon and vanilla really captures what autumn is all about, warming comfort foods. Based on … Continue reading
Since I went to France a few weeks ago, having devoured my way through most artisan patisseries, it has been the tarte au citron which has stuck in my mind. I knew I wouldn’t rest until I created my very … Continue reading
Chocolate, Clotted Cream, Fudge, Orange, Butter….needless to say that weight watchers need not apply. But for the not-so-feint hearted, these babies are utterly melt-in-mouth deliciously scrummy. They take a tiny 7 minutes to actually make (though allow them to cool … Continue reading
Salted Caramel Shortbread This recipe is great as it makes so many little bites so can last for ages. I found that the caramel didn’t set as firmly as I’d quite hoped, although it tastes ridiculously good, but if you … Continue reading
